It grows increasingly impressive each day to watch Democratic Party loyalists contort themselves to avoid acknowledging the mounting failures of the Biden administration. It’s almost like they’ve had years of practice.
Gaslighting the public
Earlier this week, President Biden threw down a gauntlet of sorts, displaying fascinating bravado by inviting critics to “Name me a single objective that we’ve ever set out to accomplish that we’ve failed on! Name me one,” he said.
One of his opponents in the Democratic primary answered the call, exposing not only various examples of Biden’s hypocrisies. but also the institutional weakness of legions of journalists who routinely fail to demonstrate similar independence.
Many of the same journalists who lack the insight and rigor to fact check the President’s lies have also taken the further step of demeaning Marianne Williamson in the past. Some have described her in marginalizing terms, others have ignored her entirely, and every one of them has refused to engage with her positions and proposed policies.
The only thing better than suppressing the truth is smearing the people who dare speak it.
Having myself proposed policies poised to address the failures of corporate Democrats, only to watch journalists smear me based on the self-serving lies of figures building careers in the Democratic Party, I feel some empathy for Williamson, as well as a sense of deja vu as her campaign continues to be treated like a piñata by observers unwilling to consider her sacrifices.
I’m quite proud to have been supported by Marianne Williamson in the past, and to support her voice in the 2024 Democratic primary (although my experience as a Democrat has led me to currently plan to vote in the general election for the Green Party’s nominee, Cornel West).
Poetic injustice
Among the many failures observed by Williamson is Biden’s fealty to the fossil fuel industry, and his record of accelerating fossil fuel production even in an era of industry-driven climate chaos that continues to kill Americans en masse.
[I almost described his dedication to industry as a “capitulation,” before realizing that would be too generous to Biden by implying that he at one point claimed independence from Big Oil, which he has always happily served, along with the rest of Wall Street.]
It is fitting that the next natural disaster driven by climate chaos already has the name of a previous corporate Democrat whose obliviousness helped contrive it.
Hurricane Hillary is poised to be the first hurricane to hit California in nearly a century.
It is poised to flood parts of Southern California starting this weekend, with forecasted precipitation levels in some areas amounting to several years’ worth of rain. While rain in the desert might sound like a good thing, desert soil poorly absorbs moisture, setting the stage for predictable flash floods that could bring devastation to vulnerable communities across the Southwest.
The name of the hurricane, to say the least, is ironic. As a Senator, Secretary of State, and Democratic Party nominee for the presidency, Clinton’s invitations to climate chaos ranged well beyond the examples I compiled below.
