Join me on Notes!
The arbitrary curation of user-generated content by established corporate social media platforms invites us to seek new places to share ideas
I recently published my first note on Substack Notes, and invite you to join me there!
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like short responses to other authors and posts promoting content by other insightful writers (like Seymour Hersh) whose work I recommend.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to my newsletter, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them them others!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes.
Why Substack Notes?
Fellow writers and readers are using Notes for a variety of reasons. For me, it’s mostly a matter of supporting a new alternative to co-opted corporate social media platforms that have done incalculable damage to our social fabric.
If you’ve shared my concerns about corporate social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter throttling content, surveilling their users, arbitrarily enforcing content moderation rules, or impeding discourse by holding content generators hostage for paid promotion in order to reach our own followers, this new platform offers at least a new way to connect and share ideas.
Time will tell whether Notes proves any different than the platforms that came before it—but given their continuing failures, I am eager to support new challenges to their digital hegemony.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. I look forward to reading your thoughts!
